Today at Indie's Review, we have a special guest poster with the crew at the Chrysalis BREW Project (check out our guest post here.) BREW crew, you have the floor!

Priscilla B. Shuler is a matriarch and bestselling author. She started at 75, writing seven novels. Her first publication was The Hunter, a fictional account of her son's raccoon hunting expedition in the Wateree River Swamp. She is currently working on three more. What better time to highlight six of her fantastic publications on your shelf?

Kuimba

The African-American Historical Fiction of 2021–2022 and winner of the BREW Readers' Choice Award for November 2021 is "Kuimba." Priscilla B. Shuler promotes the idea of repentance and forgiveness in "Kuimba." Living in their little South Carolina village is revolutionized

when a blue-eyed boy with healing abilities is born to a devoted black couple.

With his ethereal singing voice, the "Jesus Boy" inspires both love and rage in the crowd.

He is adored by his mother, Ophelia, and Lucy, the wife of his master.

However, R.Ed Barnard, Lucy's son, is very resentful of Lucy's admiration.

R.Ed Barnard's envy and anger contrast with Kuimba's love and forgiveness.

It's interesting to see what wins out in the end.

Favored

The BREW Readers' Choice Award for Christian Historical Fiction for 2021–2022 "Favored."

Is a small-town mystery that emphasizes the value of second chances and the effectiveness of forgiving people. When Colleen, a cherished waitress, is the target of attempted murder, Zacchary, South Carolina, is rocked. Sheriff Boyd Custer and his crew are committed to prosecuting the offender. But nothing is ever that simple. Everyone in the neighborhood, including the good sheriff, has some secrets of their own. Shuler demonstrates that love is not always straightforward. It might be so convoluted at times that it makes no sense. She skilfully conveys the repercussions of a violent crime on the victim and the other parties involved with her realistic writing style. This story's central theme is faith.

RAT

The Coming of Age Novel 2021/2022 category of the BREW Readers' Choice Award for February 2022 goes to "RAT." A young street person's life is transformed in the early 1800s when

he meets Miss Abigail. When the unnamed boy begins his first employment at

The Cross and Fly, he goes by the name Rat. He quickly secures a position on

a ship sailing to the Americas. As he is elevated to First Mate, RAT then adopts the name Ryan Alexander Trenton. As a result of a series of events, he ends up as the Miwok family's chief. His explorations go on. He is transported by fate from the back streets of London to the opulent coasts of the New World. He makes pit stops along the way to discover himself in cities like South Carolina, Louisiana, and San Francisco. The protagonist of "RAT" is a nobody who aspires to be somebody. Shuler demonstrates that since "everyone has a story to share," nobody should be dismissed.

The Medallion

The BREW Reader's Choice Award for Historical Romantic Fiction for 2021–2022 goes to

"The Medallion." In this book, Priscilla emphasizes the value of family.

The Martingale Manor family is not typical in the sense that not everyone is related by blood. Circumstances bring people together from various walks of life.

Through love, they create their own colorful family. Teresa, the youngest of the manor's servant girls, always thought her mother was a disfigured gypsy who everyone called a witch.

She had given Teresa the ability to cure herself. Lord Harry, the lord of the manor,

becomes unwell, and Teresa steps in to help. Like always, nothing is ever that easy.

She discovers that Lord Harry is the target of an assassin along the way.

She also confronts her own previously undisclosed past.

Watching Teresa triumph over challenges and shape her future would be exciting.

All lovers of history and romance will enjoy this thoroughly researched historical romance.

Daddy Jack's Place

The winner of The BREW Readers' Choice Award - Christian Fiction 2021/2022 "Daddy Jack's Place." by Priscilla B. Shuler is a story about faith and tenacity.

It follows Jack Boussereau as he maintains his religious convictions despite stumbling along the perilous path of a life riddled with doubt and racism.

After God delivered him from his drunken father, he committed his life to Him.

He married the scarred but stunning Patricia Ann, popularly known as Patti Ann, and everything seemed to be going according to plan as he started preaching in Addison, North Carolina.

When he discovers a stunning secret, everything changes.

He abandons his previous life at the young age of twenty-seven and runs away to live alone.

Tom, a buddy of his, assists him in getting divorced and isolates himself from everyone he knows.

He finally settles down in a tiny town where he becomes a valued member after a lifetime of strange occupations. Jack establishes Daddy Jack's Place as his own country business.

One may never wholly escape their history, though. Jack is reminded of his history regularly.

It would be interesting to see if Jack could finally find healing from the past and be able to live in the present. In her book, Shuler masterfully captures the underlying nature of racial inequality.

She illustrates how division persists even within one religious group.

Characters like Jack and Bobby strive to promote equality while following Christ's example. It is truly admirable how sensitively Priscilla handles touchy themes like abuse, racism, and incest.

Two Can Play

The winner of the BREW Reader's Choice Award - Romantic Fiction 2021/2022 is "Two Can Play," which was Priscilla's first full-length book written quickly. In this hot story, Shuler tells the account of a wife who wants a divorce from her wealthy but philandering husband. Caroline's strategy of tricking her spouse into loving her to force them apart may lead to unexpected opportunities for her. The wife's transformation into the femme fatale, an inventive idea by Shuler, gives the book a new dimension. This novel has a genuinely unique premise. Priscilla illustrates that anything is possible if one has the right mindset.
